Mumbai: Action unfolded at The Nokia 15 th Annual Star Screen Awards on Wednesday as Ashutosh Gowarikar directed Jodhaa Akbar won the best film award with its lead actor Hrithik Roshan bagging the best actor award and the director sharing the honours for the best director category. Priyanka Chopra won the award for the best actress category.
The glamorous stage on the MMRDA grounds hosted the stars as they walked the red carpet. In the race for top honours are A Wednesday, Ghajini, JaaneTu…Ya Jaane Na, Jodhaa Akbar, Rock On!!! and Sarkar Raj — with nominations both in Best Film and Best Director categories.
The fiery A Wednesday starring Naseruddin Shah and Anupam Kher won the Ramnath Goenka award. In the popoular actors category the favourite Akshay Kumar won an award for his immensely popular Singh in Kingg.
Film goers in India were treated with a wide range of films in 2008. While A Wednesday, though hugely impressive, is a small-budget production, Jodhaa Akbar redefined opulence in Bollywood. JaaneTu and Rock On!! ooze youthful energy. And action and drama scaled a new height with Ghajini and Sarkar Raj respectively .
The Best Director nominee for Rock On!!, Abhishek Kapoor, admits, “I’m elated to be nominated. It was an out-of-box film about rock musicians and their aspirations.” More out-of-box movies to enjoy the spotlight at the awards are Aamir (4 nominations) and Mumbai Meri Jaan (3).
