New Delhi, Aug 8 : The BJP has once again grabbed the opportunity to flog the UPA government on rising inflation which crossed 12% on Friday.
Charging that the UPA leadership was pushing the country into stagflation, continuous price rise with stagnant growth, party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters this evening: ‘‘the situation has gone out of control of the Congress-led UPA government and if it is not corrected immediately, India will witness stagflation’’
A continuous rising graph of prices is not an accident or a natural calamity. Omission and commission of the UPA government on the policy front has resulted in this precarious scenario, he added.
The saffron party claimed that increasing price rise would be a deciding factor and UPA will end-up paying for it. ‘‘The prices which consumer pays is much higher than what is reflected by WPI. Inflation is the single worst failure of the UPA regime. It will have to pay heavy political price for this blunder,’’ he added.
Asserting that the BJP will continue to mobilise people against price rise, Javadekar said the prices of wheat and rice are rising even though there adequate production this year. ‘‘Pulses and edible oil prices are also zooming northward even though availability has increased. Government seems to be totally clueless,’’ he said.
Criticising finance minister Chidambaram for his ‘‘inability’’ to tackle inflation, he said the minister could also not control the cartelisation in cement and steel prices.
