It is celebration time at FXLabs. Not only has the company developed India’s first PC game Agni, but has won the FICCI BAF Award 2008 for Outstanding Indian Content in the PC games category by FICCI-Frames. Talking about why it taken it so long for the country to develop its first PC game, Sashi Reddi, founder and chairman, FXLabs Studios, says, “Developing games for the PC takes anywhere between 2-5 years and is a bit on the expensive side.” Agni, informs Reddi, took 2-3 years to be on the floor and saw an investment of $2.5 million. “Moreover, you need special skills to develop such games,” says Reddi.
FXLabs got experts from the US to train its team in Hyderabad. The company expects revenues for this game to come from outside India. “The gaming market in India is still small. It will pick up in the next few years. However, for our other games like Dhoom 2 and Ghajini (Aamir Khan’s upcoming film) we are looking at both, the international and the Indian market,” says Reddi.
