Dalian (China), September 6:: China may be the 'world's factory,' but Indian companies, led by software giants TCS and Infosys, continue to outshine and dominate the annual ranking of big-cap, profitable companies in Asia.

A total of 12 Indian companies made it to the third annual ‘Forbes Asia Fabulous 50 List’, followed by Taiwan with 10 and China with seven, Forbes Asia said in a press release.

Four of India's IT outsourcing companies made the cut including the biggest, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) that writes software for leading American firms.

Its revenues leapt 45 per cent in the last year and its market capitalisation has doubled since listing three years ago to cross the USD27 billion mark, the release said.

Tata earns nearly all of its revenues overseas but will move some of its work back to India, it said.

The 12 Indian companies on the Forbes Asia 'Fabulous 50' list are: Bharat Heavy Electricals, Bharti Airtel, Grasim Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys Technologies, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries, Satyam Computer Services, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Steel and Wipro.

Most of the Indian firms on the list, however, did not have to leave home to find success, the release noted.

With a relatively young population of 1.1 billion, India has its own huge market.

Companies such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel are growing fast by reaching out to the country's rural customers, not to Western markets. Others, such as Grasim, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance, are shoring up the country's infrastructure at a furious pace.

A note of painful reality needed here on Indian firma like Tata Consultancy Services. I used to work in Tata Consultancy Services earlier. Frankly, I was shocked to see the level of staff exploitation as well as lack of ethics in their client work culture, contrary to the general impression created by them in front of the Industry. I remember that they completely copied a major Benchmarking study from one client to another without any sincere effort done at all, happened in front of my eyes.. It is sad to see the Industry running after and incredibly enriching these kind of firms, who fundamentally grew from highly unethical and exploitation driven business models. Also, it may surprise many of us to know that none of the good and qualified professionals stayed long in TCS in 1990s and beyond. Most of the good genuine professionals were harassed and suppressed politically by the highly predominant and huge number of low-quality and less educated but highly political old timer staff in TCS , and left the firm after demotivation in this kind of negative work environment. Result is that all the low quality and less educated people who have stuck to TCS past 10-20 years are occupying most of senior positions nowadays, while almost all the good people in the past 10 odd years left due to demotivation and harassment in this highly political work environment.. LET THIS BE A CHALLENGE TO TCS, IF THEY CAN REFUTE THIS FACT.. There are hundreds and maybe thousands of good ex-TCS employees who can vouch for this sad fact..
