In what will help thousands of chartered accountants (CAs) and aspiring CAs in the country pursue their American dream, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has started a new chapter in New York. The initiative is meant to streamline and enhance job prospects and opportunities for CA candidates in the US.

Through this chapter, ICAI provides a chance to all those CAs who would want to know about the American scenario in terms of finding lucrative jobs. The chapter will provide them with all information relating to job requirements there. Additionally, it would also play the role of keeping the CAs updated about the recent professional and related developments in the US as well as in India.

ICAI president Ved Jain said, “Establishment of the New York chapter in the United States is a milestone towards bridging the gap arising out of non-availability of reliable information. It seeks to bring together opportunity and opportunity seekers; by interacting with the members and extending them best possible support and logistic to succeed in their mission.” He added this chapter was committed to look for the best opportunities for its members with the stable and reputed employers in the US.

In case a CA is looking to work in the US legally as a qualified professional, he has to obtain work visa (generally H–1B visa) before he is employed. An employer willing to employ that aspirant has to apply for work visa. Finding an employer still remains a challenging task as only fewer companies are willing to sponsor foreign nationals, the reason being obtaining H-1B visa involves huge attorney fees and requires confidential information to be filed with the immigration department like proofs regarding ability to pay a certain dollar amount as minimum wages, submission of confidential financial data. This chapter will also give the US employers a chance to analyse and evaluate the caliber of the job seeker.

The Indian Cas are also in great demand for the KPO (knowledge process outsourcing) services as these services involve processes that demand advanced information search, analytical interpretation and technical skills. “This chapter would help the Indian CA’s and Indian accounting firms in identifying knowledge processing opportunities in the US”, said ICAI secretary Ashok Haldia.
