Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 2256 hrs The premium car segment in the country is set to revive with Honda Siel Car India (HSCI) launching the eighth generation Accord on Tuesday. The company's flagship car, the seventh generation Honda Accord, had been the market leader in its segment till December, when the company decided to stop its production, three months after the new Accord was launched in global markets.

Even the executive segment, which has the BMW 3-Series, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Optra, Mercedes Benz E-Class, Skoda Octavia, and Toyota Corolla, will see some action next month with the company launching the hybrid version of the Civic in the country. "Honda would launch the Civic hybrid, unveiled at the Auto Expo in January, in India next month and the company expects to deliver very few vehicles initially because of high cost attached to the vehicle," says Masahiro Takedagwa, president and CEO, HSCI.

With an advanced 2.4 litre i-VTEC engine, the new Accord would be available in three variants, costing between Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 18.14 lakh, slightly higher than its outgoing Accord that was priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh. It would be sold in India as a completely knock down unit (CKD), imported from Japan and assembled at the company's plant in Greater Noida.
