Honda Siel Cars India has recalled 2,310 Accords sold in 2005 and 2006 for replacement of a defective relay in the luxury sedans’ fuel pumps.
But not all Accords sold in this period were being called back, said company executives on Sunday.
“This is part of a global Honda campaign. We had received about five complaints in India about problems with the car,” an executive said here.
This comes close on the heels of the Japanese car maker recalling around 4,000 of its imported SUV CR-Vs sold between 2003 and 2005 for a free fuel-tank replacement.
“The replacements will be free of cost and the company is in the process of sending letters to affected customers. Dealers have been updated about the move to replace the faulty parts. New parts have been dispatched to dealers for speedy execution to avoid any inconvenience to customers,” the company said about the Accord recall.
Car-recall is accepted by customers in developed countries without a fuss, but heard often in India as companies usually do not admit that their vehicles have defective parts, fearing negative publicity. But increasing focus on safety and competition are gradually making car makers in India wake up to the issue. In 2005, Maruti had recalled about 500 Zens following complaints about coolant leakage.
