Chandigarh, Nov 13: The export of software from Haryana has increased from Rs 890 crore (in 1999-2000) to Rs 14,000 crore in 2006-07. While informing this here on Tuesday, a spokesman of the information and technology department said the state had improved its ranking in the country by six positions. It has graduated from fifteenth position to ninth position in the last two years as per the latest e-readiness assessment report released by department of information technology.

According to the spokesman, with the introduction of information technology policy Haryana is emerging as a leader. While lauding the significant role played by Haryana in achieving green revolution, he said it is now making a mark in the field of information technology. Efforts are being made to get the state on top ranks in the field of software technology.

Gurgaon has emerged as the most preferred destination for private entrepreneurs who were willing to invest in IT, ITES and BPO companies, he said. Gurgaon has become the hub of corporate world in India, he added. State government is setting up a hi-tech habitat centre for IT, ITES and BPO companies in Gurgaon, in which world-class facilities will be provided, he disclosed.

The spokesman said that there was also a proposal to develop other areas in the National Capital Region, like Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Express Highway, Gurgaon, Manesar and Faridabad as satellites of mega IT hub. Nano City is also being set up in Panchkula district to create an environment and an eco system that fosters intellectual creativity in areas of frontier technologies, which in turn would create jobs and bring economic prosperity in the region.

For capturing the new emerging opportunities and for facilitating industry, the process of setting up an IT park a Special Economic Zone has already been initiated at Panchkula. The final MoU is under implementation in about 74 acres of land, he informed.
