Mumbai, Jan 21: The government has estimated a massive investment of Rs 2 lakh crore for systems augmentation, Rs 90,000 crore for Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Viyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and Rs 40,000 crore for revised accelerated power development and reforms programme (APDRP) during the 11th Plan period. The Centre has made it clear that this would be in addition to Rs 3 lakh crore that is to add over 80,000 mw during the Plan period, Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) chairman and managing director Anil Kumar Lakhina said.
Lakhina was speaking on Monday at the inauguration of national conference on Vision- Power To All Through Innovative Technologies Adoption, organised by Indian Electricals and Electronics Manufacturers Association (Ieema). Lakhina asked investors to tap a large number of opportunities in systems augmentation, power distribution, rural electrification and metering. “During the 11th Plan, the Centre has planned 7 lakh kilometre of conductors, seven lakh transformers, 150 lakh poles and a record three-crore meters. The Centre is quite clear in its implementation strategy which will do away with business as usual attitude but take head on to catch the culprits,” Lakhina added.
He said the Centre’s distribution reforms have yielding results and informed that recovery has improved, with the launching of distribution-franschisee model and, in some cases, privatisation of distribution. Nearly 71,000 villages have so far been covered under the franschisee model wherein collection has shot up 70% to 300%.
