New Delhi, November 20: : The government on Thursday approved a Rs 275.58-crore project for electrification of villages in Arunachal Pradesh, which would be implemented in the next three years.

"Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved a project on electrification and illumination of all villages on the state border of Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs 275.58," Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said in New Delhi.

The project would electrify the border villages through micro-hydel and solar projects. "We will implement it in three years," New and Renewable Energy Secretary Deepak Gupta said.

Power Ministry had earlier approached the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in order to avoid any overlapping in the implementation of the electrification of villages.

Power Ministry is executing Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, under which it plans to electrify 1.15 lakh villages and give electricity connections to 2.34 crore Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
