Hyderabad, Sept 5 : After refrigerators, washing machines, DVDs, microwave ovens, Godrej Appliances has set its sights on the Rs 9,000-crore colour television (CTV) market. The company announced its entry into the Indian market with the launch of Eon range of XLCDs with iPIX technology. The company also has plans to enter IPTV, mobile phones and laptop as part of its future focus.
The company has entered into a strategic alliance with an European company for manufacturing high-end sets and has invested over Rs 150 crore for the same. The new technology, called the intelligent processing for image excellence (iPIX), cleans the images and uses a similar technology as remote sensing satellites to receive input signals and cleans them by reducing video noise levels, thus improving sharpness and clarity.
Commenting on their entry into the television category, George Menezes, COO, said that the television market continues to be the fastest growing market, more so in LCDs. The Eon range of televisions consists of 13 XLCD and CRT models of different screen sizes from 15-inches to 42-inches with a price band between Rs 6,000 and Rs 45,000.
According to him, the CTV market is pegged at 10.5 million units of which Andhra Pradesh forms about 0.86 million units. The industry is growing at a level of 17% and the company is looking at 10% market share in its first year of operations. Incidentally, the industry sold about 10.5 million units which is expected to reach 14.7 million by 2010, according to an ORG-MARG study. The industry is dominated by 15 national and 20 regional players.
