New Delhi, July 4: : As a measure to increase productivity and reduce costs amid rising jet fuel prices, low cost airline GoAir has reduced the number of flights to various sectors.
The company said it has reduced its operations to 800 flights a month in the ongoing lean season from about 1,000 flights earlier.
"We have reduced in the actual scenario and environment our flights to about 800 a month during the upcoming low season," a company statement said.
GoAir is also planning to restructure its fleet into a younger one by replacing older aircraft.
Currently, the airline is focusing on substituting its old and initially leased aircraft with new ones which would be delivered according to the earlier plans. Two new A320 would join its fleet in August and September of this year and six more in 2009.
The aviation turbine fuel prices were raised by over 18 per cent in the beginning of last month to Rs 69,227.08 per kl in Delhi and to Rs 76,625.68 per kl.
However, the price was marginally reduced on June 5 when the government slashed the customs duty on fuel to five per cent from 10 per cent earlier.
The prices were again increased in the beginning of this month by Rs 3,000 per kl by oil marketing companies.
Fuel cost accounts 45-50 per cent of the overall operating costs of airlines in the country.
