: India's sustained industrial growth of 10 per cent hinges mainly on the steady growth of the food processing industry, according to Dr Ajay Dua, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. Dr Dua was speaking at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the subject of sustaining 10 per cent plus industrial growth rate. Explaining the enormous growth potential of the food processing industry, he added that marketing of processed food products was confined to less than 200 cities, whereas it had the potential of being marketed in over 8,000 cities and towns. The retail revolution, on the other hand, in the country will catalyse the sector and bring to fore the real potential, he said. “Sustaining 10 per cent industrial growth is a challenge but a proactive skill development policy to build and consolidate the country's demographic advantage is imperative”.
