New Delhi, April 29:: Having locked horns with the Central Government several times in the past, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said the era of 'Delhi running the country' is over and its time states have a greater role.

Addressing a CII conclave, the firebrand BJP Chief Minister said the Centre should increase 'coordination and communication' with states to ensure overall development as it is the need of the hour.

"Don't get me wrong. The era of Delhi running the country is over," said Modi, who had often been on a collision course with the Centre on issues like 'communal budgeting' and internal security.

Taking a dig at the Central Government, Modi said the Central government has recently launched a programme 'save the girl child', which the Gujarat Government had begun two years ago.

"If Delhi is two years behind Gujarat, then you can well imagine what will be the situation," he said.

Answering a question during interaction, he said time labour reforms be made a state subject and asked the Central government to show the will to do that despite Opposition from some states.

"The West Bengal government sticks to its politics and my state has to suffer," he said referring to the CPM-led government's reservations on labour reforms.

The Chief Minister, who has often talked about the welfare of five crore people of his state, said his motto was 'sarvajan hitaye, sarvajan sukhaye' (welfare and happiness of all).
