Chandigarh, Apr 17: The Haryana government would introduce an innovative system with a view to improve the standard of education in the state by introducing school teachers eligibility test (STET) for recruitment of all categories of teachers for government schools.

This was disclosed by state education minister Mange Ram Gupta here on Thursday. He asserted that this step would be helpful for raising the standard of education in the state. He said that the new system would be applicable for recruitment of all categories of school teachers. The test would be conducted once a year by the education board, Bhiwani.

Gupta described the pass percentage for candidates belonging general and SC categories would be 50% and 45% respectively for consideration for recruitment of teachers by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission. He maintained that education board would also ensure highest standard of secrecy and as well as quality of the STET examinations.

He made is clear that only eligible person would get only three chances to appear and pass the test.

The education minister said that those candidates who would be found eligible would be awarded a certificate of eligibility by the education board and this certificate would remain valid for a period of five years for consideration for recruitment as school teachers by the HSSC.

In my opinion, STET is not a competition test. It's a Eligibility Test to be considered for the recruitment of Teacher in the Haryana State only. Recruitment and final Selection will be done by Haryana Staff Selection Commission, whatever criteria they deem fit. You will have to apply against the advertisement to be published by the HSSC and then you may have to face with the interview by the FINAL SELECTION COMMITTE of the HSSC.In my opinion, if HSSC does not conduct written test, they may shortlist the candidates based upon academic record STET elegibility performance. However, State Government can decide whether to take back recruitment/selection of teachers from the purview of HSSC and asked the Department of Education to fix the criteria for final selection of the candidates who have qualified STET 2008. In both the cases INTERVIEW performance (Academic record also) seems to become compulsory for the final selection. This is my personal opinion.
