January is the month when the mighty meet at Davos. For the 2010 gathering, PM has asked Pranab Mukherjee, Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma and Montek Ahluwalia to represent India. The coming budget will be crucial for what it says on, among other things, fiscal correction.
Rlys version of RTI
Even as the Chief Information Commissioner is trying to make the Right to Information Act, 2005, more people friendly, the railway ministry seems to be trying to curb the ambit of the Act. In fact, it believes that the media should be exempt from using the RTI Act. On getting a query under the RTI Act from a journalist recently, a miffed official from railway minister Mamata Banerjee’s office called up and complained that RTIs should be used only by the general public to access information on departmental issues. Journalists should not use it for getting stories and instead should seek information strictly through informal interactions with ‘sources’!
On the spec
At the state industry ministers’ meet held in Delhi, commerce minister Anand Sharma called for establishing a single window clearance mechanism for the industry. During the lunch hour, one could see Maharashtra industry minister Rajendra Darda and minister of state for commerce Jyotiraditya Scindia having an informal chat. As the duo got ready to get back to the meeting room, Darda forgot to pick up his spectacles. But a smiling Scindia came to his rescue by pointing out, “You have left your single window back in the seat.”
