DaimlerChrysler India Private Ltd, the 100% subsidiary of the erstwhile DaimlerChrysler group (now two separate entities Daimler AG and Chrysler LCC), will soon be renamed back to Mercedes-Benz India Private Limited, told company’s spokesperson to FE.
“The Indian subsidiary will be renamed by the first quarter,” he said, adding that countries selling one product, like India, Australia, Thailand, and Singapore, will now get Mercedes-Benz as the first name.
Those selling more than one product, like Germany, will be called Daimler.
“Other than the name, nothing else will change,” said the company’s spokesperson, adding that the operations of the now separated entities have always remained independent of each other.
Soon to be called Mercedes-Benz India Pvt Ltd on Wednesday did the dealer launch of the new Mercedes C-Class in Mumbai. The company will be making 12 dealer launches of the new C-Class in cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, among others, within a few weeks.
Speaking on the occasion, Suhas Kadlaskar, director, corporate affairs, and member of the board of management, DaimlerChrysler India Private Limited (to be Mercedes-Benz India Pvt Ltd), said, “The company made the nationwide launch of the new Mercedes C-Class at the recent Auto Expo in New Delhi. Now, we are have city specific launches in the country.”
He indicated that the company has already sold 160 plus of the new C-Class from the expo till date.
Priced in the range of Rs 26 - 30 lakh, the New C-Class was launched in Europe around May 2007. “The Mercedes cars, after their launch in Europe, generally come to India within a six- to nine-month period”, Kadlaskar indicated.
On plans to get the hybrid version in the market, he said, “The parent company is conducting studies.”
In the year 2007, the company witnessed an 84% growth in the sale of the S-class, with approximately 457 S-class Mercedes sold during the year.
Around 800 of the C-class were sold during the period under review.
