



: Sensex closes on a flat note
The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) added 18.41 points or 0.11% to end the day at 17,050.65 points. The broader Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 4.20 points or 0.08% to close the day at 5,062.25 points. According to provisional figures furnished by the BSE, foreign institutional investors were net buyers at Rs 463.42 crore, while domestic institutional investor sold stocks worth Rs 235.54 crore.
India-origin is D&B CEO
Dun and Bradstreet on Tuesday announced the appointment of India-born Sara Mathew as the new chief executive officer with effect from July 1, 2010. Sara, who at present is the president and chief operating officer, would succeed Steven W Alesio, the current chairman and CEO, who is retiring with effect from June 30, 2010, the company said in a statement here. "Sara is a seasoned business leader with a strong financial, strategic and operational background. She has been instrumental in leading our international business to high-growth, and is re-shaping the direction of our North American business. Having worked side by side with her at D&B for over eight years, I am confident in her ability to lead our company into the future as its next CEO,” Alesio said.
Gilbarco buys L&T unit
Gilbarco Inc, headquartered in the US, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the petroleum dispensing pump business unit of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), pending final closing conditions. With the move, PDP will become part of Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s organisation in a new division called Gilbarco Veeder Root India Private Ltd. All businesses will be conducted under the Gilbarco brand.
Hindalco fund-raising nod
Hindalco Industries Ltd, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, on Tuesday said it received an approval from its shareholders for raising funds up to Rs 2,900 crore through issuing securities. The shareholders, at the extra ordinary general meeting held on Tuesday, resolved “to issue further securities of the company for an amount not exceeding Rs 2,900 crore,” Hindalco said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Balco vice-president held
Vice-president of Balco Viral Mehta and two company officials Deepak Narang and Anup Mahapatra were arrested in connection with a fatal chimney collapse in Chhattisgarh’s northeastern district of Korba, police said on Tuesday. The chimney was being constructed at the power plant in Korba.
