New Delhi, Mar 25: Rising prices of food, beverages and tobacco products have pushed the consumer price index for urban non-manual employees—CPI (UNME)—by three points in February to 523 over January 2008.
The increase is 5.2% over February last year.
The indices for the four metros— Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai—rose during the first two months of the year.
The variation in the index for the 59 centres it covers—including places like Hyderabad, Shillong, Guwahati, Jabalpur, Nagpur and Kozhikode—ranges from 1.2% to 12.4%.
The largest increase has been seen in Shillong and the minimum increase in Shimla. The increase is less than 4.0% for 19 centres, between 4 and 5% for 10 centres, 5.1 and 7% for 16 centres and 7.1% and above for 14 centres.
As many as 31 centres have a lower
The annual percentage increase is lower than the national average of 5.2% in 31 centres. Twenty-six centres have recorded a higher percentage increase compared to the all-India average and two centres have recorded the same level of increase as that of the All-India average.
