New Delhi, Sep 7: Congress and Samajwadi Party are set for hard bargaining in the seat sharing talks for Uttar Pradesh on Monday, amid clear signs from the SP that it was in no mood to give more than a dozen odd seats to the grand old party.
SP general secretary Amar Singh heading the party team for the talks had even signalled that his party was not ready to give an extra inch to the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. SP is also seeking ‘few seats’in Mahrashtra, Karnataka, MP where the Congress is in a much better position.
Rahul Gandhi is leading the Congress team in the talks which include, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and UPCC chief Rita Bauhuguna Doshi. The SP had won 39 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress had emerged victorious in nine constituencies. The state has a total 80 seats and the SP is insisting that the seat sharing should be on the basis of 2004 results.
