Congress on Friday sought to reject the deadline set by the Left parties to the UPA government to clarify on whether it was going ahead on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Sovereign governments or political parties cannot be subjected to deadlines, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters minutes after the Left parties set a July 7 deadline for the government to clarify its position on approaching the IAEA for the safeguards agreement.

"We are working towards triple objectives -- to do a nuclear deal in national interest, to carry along our allies with us for that purpose and to go to elections as per the Constitutional schedule," he said.

Rejecting suggestions of an "unholy alliance", Singhvi said, "Samajwadi Party and the Congress have never been mutually untouchable in the same sense as the Left and the BJP or the Congress and the BJP."

Singhvi said the Congress had not changed its stand on the nuclear deal "by even one millimetre".

"We believe that the nuclear deal is in national interest and are happy that other parties in the national interest are slowly converging to our view point," he said.

Asked whether the bonhomie with the Samajwadi Party would extend to Uttar Pradesh, he said, "I need to emphasise that the current contextual developments were at the national level. I have said nothing at the regional level."

"However, once cooperation and convergence starts at the national level, it is not unnatural of it to assume wider proportions subsuming regional levels also," Singhvi said.

Left parties said that the government must tell them by July 7 if it plans to press ahead with the next step in a controversial civilian nuclear deal with the United States, which they strongly oppose.

The Left parties have threatened to withdraw support for the government if it seeks approval for the deal from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the next international move needed to operationalise the pact.

"We wish to know definitely whether the government is proceeding to seek the approval of the safeguards agreement by the board of governors of the IAEA," said Prakash Karat, CPI (M) General Secretary, reading out a letter addressed to the government.

The party said it would launch a national campaign from July 14 to explain its opposition to the nuclear deal and what it called "runaway" inflation.

The Left parties also decided to "staunchly expose and oppose the efforts of BJP and its allies to whip up communal polarisation with the...

Congress snubs and slaps on the face of LEFT after enjoying lunch and dinner with left for more than 4 years. Shame on Congress for being "Namak Haram". The moment Congress has a deal with SP on N-Deal, it started changing colours like lizard. Nevertheless its a unity between SIMI supporters SP and divide and rule belivers Congress in the garb of N-deal. On going war of words, snubs etc.,has LEFT the LEFT with no issue and has to eat humble pie after eating lot of pies on dinner table. It is worth mentioning here that Amar Singh is boasting of taking advice of Ex-President Kalam on N-Deal forgetting that his party did not like to give Mr. Kalam the 2nd chance. Anyways, Amar Singh is a habitual "spit and lick" politician and cannot be taken seriously.

Hindus in India must start think why they are divided into hundreds of parties. At this rate, can they ever create a Great Hindustan on planet Earth. Just unite under one single political party, the saviour of India, BJP; and create a Great Nation. There are 57 Muslim countries on Earth, can any Hindu ever think a non-Muslim can ever sit on a chair in the Government in those countries. In India? Communists want Muslim votes, for power and hence the State Treasury - not progress of the Nation. Ram Vilas Paswan wants a Muslim Chief Minister for Bihar. He has no other important issues like nation's progress. I request Biharis to please help Ram Vilas Paswan to fulfill his life ambition. Please, my dear Hindus, start thinking to create Great Hindustan. Unite. Union is strength. Jai Hind.

Finally it is good to see congress growing a spine and balls to take the commie blackmail head on and call their bluff. However it was painful to watch on TV the loosers like Chautala talking patronisingly to congrees about the nuke deal. What a sorry pass the grand old party has come to.

The Left parties oppose every developmental activity be IT, industry, power projects, SEZ's, Chemical plants. They want India to remain backward and poor. Even after ruling West Bengal for 30 years, WB remains a backward state because of the faulty and outdated policies of the Left parties. Prakash Karath is fit to be placed in Kolkata Museum.

As far politics in India is considered, nobody is a saint. The bottlenecks and Hurdles possed by left parties for modernisation and development are not little. It would be welcome, if they assume objective stand and convince nation of it. God bless.

» Well done Cong, delayed the deal enough so that every one realised that Coms are Chini agents

Cong. played its cards well. While the Commeis continued their rantings on the directions of their Yuan giving masters in Chin and Nepal, and Dinar giving masters in Bonglades, to obstruct Bharat's attempt to strengthen itself, it sank in deep into each and every Indian that Commeis can only work in interest of Chin, traiters that they are. Had this decision to kick the Commeis been taken earlier, there true face might still have escaped some Indian citizens. Now the net effect is that their bosom friend Mulla Yam etc. from SP have decided not to be in the same boat as their Chini and Maowadies masters, or the Bongaladesi fanatics. I see it as another nail in the coffin of these regressive, corrupt, anti natoinals.

BJP should bail out Manmohan in case any of these hoodlums change their mind. BJP has many many other issues to talk about before the next poll.

Why not today? Left should withdraw support now, pack their bags and return to their bases in Bengal and Kerala. They will do Indians a big favor not being in political limelight.
