New Delhi: The Congress and the Babulal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) on Friday entered into an alliance for the forthcoming Assembly polls in Jharkhand. The Congress conceded 19 seats to the JVM, while they agreed to a ‘friendly fight’ on seven others. The Congress, which has already announced candidates for 50 seats, will contest 55 seats in the 81-member state Assembly.
Announcing the alliance at a joint press conference here, AICC in-charge of the state K Keshava Rao and Marandi attributed their decision to form an alliance to the people’s desire for a “stable government” in Jharkhand, which has had six chief ministers in the past nine years.
“We have come together to provide stability, development and inclusive growth. There has been so much of political instability in Jharkhand. There have been six CMs. We want to provide a stable government,” said Rao.
Incidentally, Marandi was the first chief minister of the state and had led the NDA government in the state for over two years before being replaced by Arjun Munda. He formed the JVM after quitting the BJP in 2006.
“People of Jharkhand are fed up with the successive governments there. They are looking for an alternative. We will provide the alternative,” said Marandi at the press conference.
