: Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) is interested in India’s upcoming contract for 126 multi-role combat aircraft and up to 12 helicopters. Even as the US aircraft manufacturer’s activity in the civil aerospace sector consolidates its position here, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) is just entering the Indian market.
Says Chris Chadwick, Vice-President and General Manager, Boeing IDS: “We will compete to win India’s upcoming competitions for 126 multi-role combat aircraft and up to 12 helicopters. The P-8 Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft is currently under consideration by the defence ministry for India’s maritime requirement and has just been down-selected to proceed to flight trials."
In this direction, Boeing IDS plans a significant presence at Aero India. Plus, there will be daily aerial demonstrations of the Boeing F/A-18EF Super Hornet and CH-47 Chinook helicopter. The Super Hornet will also be on static display alongside the Chinook. A US Air Force Boeing C-17 Strategic Lift Cargo plane will also be on display.
“The focus for IDS will be to engage with the Indian customer and the media, increasing awareness of our products and our business strategy in India, which is not simply to sell our products but to develop long term business relationships with Indian industries, leveraging the best of Indian skills and technology to make our business more robust and cost-effective,” says Chadwick.
Boeing in December 2003 established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Boeing International Corporation India Private Ltd (BICIPL), headquartered in New Delhi. According to Stanley Roth, Vice-President for international government relations, the current politico-economic scenario in India provides for better business prospects in civilian aerospace and defence sectors. A strong bilateral relationship helps ensure that Boeing is not at a disadvantage when it competes against non-American companies whose countries also have positive relationships with India,” he says.
