Color Chips To Hike Headcount To 1,000

Hyderabad: Color Chips India Limited, engaged in the production of 2D and 3D animation films, has proposed to add over 800 animators in the next 12 months to take the employee strength to 1000 professionals. The company recently bagged two new orders from overseas clients.

The proposed manpower expansion is in view of few more such orders in the pipeline. The company is currently negotiating with four more major overseas companies and is expected to clinch the deals soon.

Speaking to eFE, Color Chips chairman and managing director Sudhish S Rambhotla said, the company is looking at a total manpower of 1000 animators in the next 12 months as against the current level of 150 animators, thanks to the two new orders.

“We are adding 250 animators in the next two to three months and will add another 600 animators subsequently taking it to the total of 1000 member team in the next 12 months to meet the demands from our new customers,” Mr Rambhotla said. “We have bagged orders worth over $4 million from two animation majors - BKN Kids of Germany and Benj Production of France in the recent past,” he added.

According to Mr Rambhotla, the company is also close to clinching orders worth $7 million from four different companies in the US and Europe. “We are in the final stage of negotiations with these companies and hope to clinch the deals in the next few months,” he said.

All the new projects are children’s animated series like ’Legend of Dragon,’ KiKi of Japanese fame, which are popular in the US, Europe and Japanese markets.

The company has also bagged the rights to telecast the same in the Asian markets, he said.

As part of its diversification, Color Chips has entered into producing feature films. The company in joint collaboration with Chennai-based Imax Arts, a film production company, has produced a feature film ’19 revolution,’ targeting youths, with an estimated investment of Rs 2.5 crore. The film will be released soon. “We will also produce more such feature films in joint collaboration,” Mr Rambhotla said.

In order to meet the expansion plans and other expenditures, the company has proposed to come out with a rights issue to raise up to Rs 13 crore. “We will be filing the offer document soon with the SEBI and hope to open the issue in May,” he said.
