Cognos to consolidate Indian operations

Mumbai, Jun 1: Cognos, an IBM company in the business intelligence (BI) and performance management solutions space, is looking to significantly improve its Indian operations.

The $1.1-billion company, that was acquired by IBM in January 2008, has currently about $4 million revenue from Indian operations. The company plans to take it to $40 million by next year and $45 million by 2012.

Joyer Mascarenhas, AVP, APAC professional services, Cognos, said, “India is an important geography for us and we are looking at more than 150% growth by next year. Most of our revenues come from enterprise and SMEs.”

He adds that the company has been providing solutions for resource planning, project profitability, compliance and governance amongst others to about 200 customers. “We will continue to focus on verticals like retail, finance and public sectors.”

Cognos has been working with Bharti, Genpact, TCS, HDFC Bank, American Express and the ministry of statistics, amongst others.

The company currently has about 4,400 employees, besides 1200 employees in reesearch and development, across 173 countries.

With the view to expand, the company also intends to introduce Cognos BI curriculum for MBA and CA students in India . The company had introduced the curriculum in a number of universities in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada and Singapore. The company is currently in talks with some of the educational institutes and universities in Bangalore and Mysore to introduce the programme.
