Hong Kong, July 12: Passenger traffic at two of China’s largest airlines fell slightly in June from May, as fewer domestic travellers took to the skies.
Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd said it carried 1.4 million passengers in June, down 0.82 per cent from May but more than three times the number in June 2003, when the SARS outbreak devastated the travel industry.
Its larger peer, China Southern Airlines Co Ltd, said it carried 2.1 million passengers in June, down 4.5 per cent from a month earlier and also more than triple the previous year’s figure.
China Eastern’s domestic traffic in June fell 2.8 per cent from May when most Chinese enjoyed a week-long holiday for Labour Day.
