Raipur, Nov 19 : Former chief minister Ajit Jogi will be among 687 candidates whose electoral fortunes will be decided on Thursday when polling will be held for 51 seats in the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly in the second and final phase amid tight security.
Nearly 88 lakh voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise at 12,073 poll ing stations across eight districts—Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh, Koria, Champa and Naxal-hit Sarguja and Jashpur.
As many as 2,608 booths have been classified as sensitive and 355 booths as hypersensitive. Besides Congress leader Jogi from Marwahi and his wife Renu, prominent leaders who are in the fray include BJP state president Vishnudeo Sai, deputy speaker Badridhar Diwan, home minister Ramvichar Netam, health minister Amar Agrawal, Dilipsingh Judeo’s son Yudhvir Singh Judeo and former home minister Nand Kumar Patel.
Voting will be held for six scheduled caste, 15 scheduled tribe and 30 unreserved seats. Nearly 43,000 security personnel were deployed for the violence marred first phase of elections on Nov 14 for 39 constituencies in 10 districts, most of them naxal affected.which registered 55% turnout.
