Jamshedpur, Aug 22 : The Centre is mulling the idea of bringing out an ordinance with respect to nine iron ore mines located in the Chiria and Gua regions of Jharkhand for which SAIL has filed mining lease renewal applications with the state government.
Union minister for chemicals, fertilisers and steel Ram Vilas Paswan told reporters that the Jharkhand government had not acted on nine of the 10 applications filed by SAIL around eight years ago.
Paswan said SAIL was in expansion mode and needed an increasing iron ore supply, which would not be possible if the Jharkhand government kept delaying the matter. He said the Centre would watch the situation before ‘coming out with an ordinance’.
The minister said steel production in the country was growing at 6%, consumption at 13%. The government is determined to ‘bridge the gap,’ according to him.
