New Delhi, Nov 27: Holding that taking bribe for asking questions in Parliament by MPs amounts to an offence, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed police to initiate investigations into the role of 11 MPs in the cash-for-query scam.
‘‘The police is directed to book all those persons involved in the offence of taking bribe, their middlemen and to get them punished according to law,’’ Justice SN Dhingra said.
‘‘Taking bribe for asking question by the MPs through their middlemen is an offence covered under the Prevention of Corruption Act,’’ the Court said.
‘‘When the whole nation could watch, hear and see certain MPs indulging into corruption, on different news channel and read it in different newspaper with every minute detail, police officials had no ears and eyes,’’ Justice SN Dhingra said adding, ‘‘It is pity that police of this country has lost its ears and eyes.’’
The Court also fixed a deadline for the police to complete the investigation and filing of chargesheet against the MPs.
