



Kolkata, Jul 23: The high commission of Canada has decided to open its trade office in Kolkata. It will be the 8th such office in India. According to Ghislain Chaput, head of public affairs, the office will start functioning from this September.
The trade relationship between India and Canada has been a balanced one, said Chaput. In 2007, Canada's exports to India were worth Cad $1.8 billion, while India exported goods and services worth $2 billion.
Exports from India have grown 50% in the last five years, while Canadian exports have nearly tripled during the period, said Chaput. Agrifood, transport and infrastructure and environmental technologies are the major areas of tarde between the two countries. Chaput said Indian investment in Canada has increased significantly in recent times.
