



Bangalore: Biocon India will launch Insugen, a recombinant human insulin under its own brand in the Indian market the first half of this year. The product developed in-house, is now undergoing the final stages of clinical trials, according to Biocon India chairman and managing director Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
Biocon is planning to take the product to other regulated markets through marketing partnerships with global companies. “We are in discussions with several companies,” said Ms Mazumdar-Shaw.
Biocon also plans to enter into branded formulations for cardiovascular and diabetics market. In the oncology segment, the company will be ready with a monoclonal antibody product for head and neck cancer by 2005, she said.
In the next two months, Biocon will take up phase 2-B trials of the product in the next two months.
The company is also working on products for the oral anti-diabetic market and immuno suppressant market which are expected to go off patent in the near future.
Biocon is also coming up with a dedicated immunosuppressant facility. It plans a two-fold expansion plan of the custom research facility and a four-fold expansion of its statin facility this year.
