Kolkata, Jun 11: West Bengal may soon have 54 modern pathological and diagnostic laboratories if the state government gives the necessary approval. The laboratories will come up at various district, sub-divisional and general hospitals and medical colleges in Kolkata and some other districts. Total investment will be around $100 million.
Kolkata-based NEON Healthcare & Research Institute Ltd on Wednesday tied up with US-based Hayes Lab to bring the benefit of the latest technological advancement in pathology laboratory services to the people of the state. They have submitted a proposal to the state health ministry asking for space in hospitals and medical colleges to set up high-end and cost-effective pathological and diagnostics centers.
According to the proposal, laboratories would come up at 14 district hospitals and all medical colleges in Siliguri, Bankura, Malda, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Howrah, Kolkata and Hooghly.
"The public-private-partnership model already exists. If the current proposal works out, people of Bengal will get the benefit. Since we have just received the proposal, it would take some time to put it into a policy framework," state health & family welfare minister Surjya Kanta Mishra said.
