To regulate the haphazard industrial development taking place in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh belt, a comprehensive master plan for the region shall finally be out by September this year.
The groundwork for the master plan started early this year with various surveys like population, life, industrial growth etc being conducted. The plan will contain a regulatory framework and outline broad transportation network for the industrial belt. The Plan would also focus on provision of good quality infrastructure and housing and sprucing up the area.
An official from the Centre for Environment Planning and Technology told FE that the plan will focus on promoting the Public Private Partnership (PPP) format for development of the area.
"The plan will ensure a balanced development of the region including the villages and rural areas. He further added that various sectors will be demarcated for specific commercial and residential developments. The total area to be covered under the plan is around 317.5 sq kms. The development would take place in a phased manner," he said.
The pre-draft discussion on the master plan is slated to be held in the first week of the September. The consultants will discuss various issues with the administration and the representatives from Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh Development Authority (BBNDA). Talking to FE, Amandeep Garg, CEO, BBNDA, said that the survey is ready and the base map has been prepared, projections has been made to divide the area in different zones. "The draft plan will shortly be ready after everthing is clarified in the meeting," he said.
It is to be noted that separate plans have been prepared earlier also, in 1994 for Baddi and Barotiwala and Nalagarh. However, this led to random industrial development in the area creating infrastructure problems. The problem was accentuated after the announcement of the industrial package for the state of Himachal Pradesh in 2003 which was extended to 2010.
