Global networking major BT is expecting 250 million dollar revenue from India by 2009 and would hire 6,000 people by next year as it expands operations in the country.

"Our plans for India are well on track and we are poised to reach the 250 million dollar target revenue from India by 2009," BT India Chairman and MD Arun Seth said today. He did not give the current revenue figures from India.

Seth said BT would make investment in people for its growing Indian operations, but did not disclose the figure.

"The company will hire 6,000 more people directly and indirectly by 2008 to its 20,000 people at present," he said.

The company also announced its expansion for Indian enterprise communication market by increasing the number of connecting points for its network infrastructure – multi protocol level switching -- which is the basis for high quality video and voice services over the internet.

New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune will have multiple nodes while an additional one is coming up in Kolkata, Seth said.

With this, the company has 14 connecting points (nodes) in India -- highest by any global service provider – that will help it extend network services to neighbouring Nepal, Pakistan, Bangaldesh and Sri Lanka by April 2008, he added.

Working with over 300 customers in India, BT which has NLD and ILD licenses, said in India it will continue to remain focused on telecom services business to corporates, MNCs, IT and BPO companies.
