Indian energy equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd is spending 10 billion rupees ($240 million) to expand the capacity of a boiler plant in southern India, an official said on Thursday.
When the expansion is completed by July next year the plant at Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu state will be able to make boilers that can totally produce 10,000 megawatts, up from 5,750 megawatts now, R.N. Misra, executive director of the unit, said.
"This will get commissioned in June-July 2009," Misra said on the sidelines of an industry summit.
He said the plant had orders worth 170-180 billion rupees, and expects orders for two 800 megawatt boilers from a joint venture with Tamil Nadu's state-run utility.
