New Delhi, Oct 13: German luxury car manufacturer Audi AG has decided to set up its own manufacturing facility in India and has selected Andhra Pradesh to put up the plant.
Earlier, Audi had planned sharing Volkswagen group's sister concern Skoda's Aurangabad plant for rolling out its cars in India. It was also contemplating using Volkswagen's facilties once the latter set up its plant in India.
Industry sources said that Audi might set up the plant either in Hyderabad, Nellore or Visakhapatnam as these places have existing industrial clusters.
Rahil Ansari, country manager, India, Audi AG confirmed to FE about the company's plan to set up its own manufacturing faciltiy, but declined to divulge the location.
Sources said Audi could have ruled out sharing Volkswagen's facilities, as the company is yet to decide the location of setting up its plant.
In September Volkswagen had announced that it would set up its plant in Andhra Pradesh, however, later it said it might opt for Maharashtra, Pujnab or West Bengal.
At present, Audi sells its A4, A6, A8, TT and Q7 models in the Indian market as completely built units (CBUs). It would launch S8 and RS4 models in the country by the end of this year.
In calendar year 2005, Audi sold 105 cars in the Indian market and plans to sell 300 units this year and 700 in 2007.
