ASB hires consultant for Rs 63-campus

Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 : Asian School of Business (ASB) has hired CPG-Consultants, the architects of Singapore Changi Airport, to set up its new Rs 63-crore campus in Thiruvananthapuram. This is planned as the first Leeds-certified green building complex and campus in Kerala.

The B-school, set up by Oman-based construction magnate George M Thomas, expects to move its two-year PG management programme to the new campus by second half of 2009.

At present, the school is functioning from the Technopark campus. “There is no immediate plan to hike the course fees, although many B-schools are doing this,”G VijayaRaghavan, member secretary, Asian School of Business, said. The B-School now has only a course-fee of Rs 3.5 lakh, although the per student spend has been as high as Rs 8 lakh,” he added.

S Ramadorai, CEO, Tata Consultancy Services, is the chairman of the B-School’s board of governors. In the first batch as much as 95% quality campus placements were achieved, K Ramakrishnan, director, Asian School of Business, said. At present, the admission for the fourth batch is on.

Those who recruited its first graduates include KPMG, Kotak Bank, Blue Stat, Edelweiss, Ernst & Young, Ernst & Young Middle East, HP Global, Idea Mobile Communications, Wealth Solutions, ICICI Bank, HDFC Ban, JRG Securities, Forbes Marshal and SunTec.

CPG Consultants was chosen for building the campus, in view of its expertise in the design of energy-efficient buildings as in their work ranging from National Univeristy of Singapore to Singapore airport, George M Thomas said.

The first phase of the campus is scheduled to be complete by 15 months, costing RS 30 crore. The second and third phases are estimated to cost Rs 12 crore and Rs 21 crore respectively.
