RAM NATH GOENKA’S CENTENARY TRIBUTE

‘A Child’s Courage, An Adult’s Fortitude’

New Delhi, Aug 28: The birth centenary of Mr Ram Nath Goenka (1904-1991) was celebrated with solemn tributes by the Indian Express Group on Saturday at the Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament library building. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had consented to be the chief guest, was unable to attend on account of a seasonal fever.

The president of the Congress party and chairman of United Progressive Alliance Sonia Gandhi, was reportedly laid low by a similar malaise and unable to attend, either.

In the event, the evening of tributes hosted by Mr Vivek Goenka, chairman and managing director of The Indian Express Group, proved a moving experience. It was marked by a rare recollection by several elder statesmen and former editors of The Indian Express, of little known insights into Mr Goenka’s life.
