8 years and counting, policemen cannot move into 877 flats
not available. Hence, personnel are not willing to take allotment of these flats. If these problems are fixed, these 877 quarters could be occupied,” the officer said.
At the time of purchase, these flats were one room tenements. But police asked the DDA to combine two tenements and convert them into two-bedroom flats. These flats were used in 2010 to accommodate personnel who came from outside Delhi for the Commonwealth Games. Then, the DDA had provided water tankers and sewage disposal was done through sewage sucking machines. No permanent system to fix the problem was put in place even then, the officer said.
The DDA, however, passed the buck to Delhi Jal Board. A DDA official said, “We have told Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to provide drinking water facility to these flats, but they keep pushing the date. As for the sewage system, we have laid the internal pipes, but we do have the land for disposing the waste. We require a main outlet to dump the waste. We are looking into the matter.” he said.
“We supply water through tankers and sewage disposal is done through sucking machines whenever required,” he said.
“From Rohini Sector 19 onwards, we have not taken over from DDA. So water and waste water management is still their responsibility. We only supply water in bulk, which is to be managed by DDA,” DJB CEO Debashree Mukherjee said.
