46% more wheat lifted in Haryana over 2007

Tuesday , May 06, 2008 at 1443 hrs Procurement agencies in Haryana have so far procured 49.16 lakh metric tons of wheat during the ongoing rabi marketing season, up by 46 per cent over 2007's procurement, with the total wheat arrival in the state reaching 49.68 MT.

Besides 51,408 MT wheat was also purchased by the private traders, which was only one per cent of the total arrival.

While giving information, in Chandigarh on Tuesday, the Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan said that in 2007, 33.50 lakh MT wheat was purchased at the minimum support price. He said that the procuring agencies had surpassed the record of last three years in purchase of wheat.

He said that in the year 2004-2005 as much as 45.43 lakh MTs of wheat was purchased.

While enumerating the details of the arrival of the wheat in the mandis, he said that HAFED procured 18.34 lakh MT, Food and Supplies Department procured 10 lakh MT of wheat, Food Corporation of India 7.48 lakh MT, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 4.53 lakh MT, Confed 4.42 lakh MT and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 4.28 lakh MT.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Sirsa district has surpassed Karnal district with the arrival of 6.87 lakh MT whereas Karnal was leading with 5.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat so far in the State.
