4 villages seek merger with PMC
He said he himself represented a fringe village included in the city limits in 1997 and that the village has benefited immensely.
“I have asked the villages to merge with the corporation,’’ he said addressing a press meet. He did not seem fazed when asked about his stand being different from that of his party chief Sharad Pawar who had voiced concern over the merger.
Chandere said he was giving only his personal opinion. He said he was willing to talk to different people in the PMC for a consensus.
Bringing these 28 villages within PMC limits will increase the civic body’s geographical area to more than 450 sq km from the present 243.84 sq km.
The state government had issued the notification on October 11. The expanded city could come close to or become even bigger than the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which, as the largest civic body in the state, covers 480.24 sq km.
