Balasore, January 12:: Orissa Government has identified 300 tourist spots in the state, which would be developed as attractive destinations for domestic and international tourists.
The state government has decided to link beach and eco-tourism in Orissa, which is endowed with 480 km coastline, vast natural and wildlife potential and ancient heritage, state Tourism Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said while inaugurating the 9th Golden Beach festival at Chandipur-on-sea.
About Rs 12 crore was alloted to the district alone for promotion of tourism, while steps were being taken for integrated development of Chandipur-Tala-Chandipur-Remuna- Panchalingeswar Nilgiri circuit under circuit development scheme at a cost of Rs 928 lakh, he said.
Work on this project was expected to be completed by 2009, he said.
However, infrastructure like road and electricity were essential for promoting tourism and many private entrepreneurs have shown interest to invest in these areas, he said.
An expert committee under the UN has recently conducted survey in some important coastal areas of Orissa in which two neighbouring states like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh were involved for an integrated coastal development plan, he said.
