Kolkata May 10: The West Bengal government's labour department has shortlisted three insurance companies for rolling out the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana in four districts, according to Nurul Haque, principal secretary to the labour department.
The scheme, aimed at covering families living below the poverty line (BPL), will be implemented in Burdwan, East Midnapore, Malda and North 24 Parganas over the next two months.
"One insurance company is ICICI (Prudential Life Insurance) and the other two are nationalised companies," he said on the sidelines of a session on labour laws organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here on Saturday.
The Employees State Insurance Corp would be implementing the job on behalf of the government, with the Union and state sharing costs on a 75:25 basis.
By May 20, the insurance companies would submit the financial bids, he said.
In case of accidental death, the insured person's dependants would get Rs 30,000.
The government is also setting up the West Bengal Unorganised Sector Workers Welfare Board to look after the workers in the sector, who account for 90% of the total workforce, he said.
