A 22-year-old theatre artiste was allegedly molested and verbally abused by an official from the Income Tax department on Sunday evening. The incident was reported from Central Delhi’s IP Estate area around 6 pm.
Speaking to Newsline, the victim said she was on her way to Mandi House for a practice session when the accused came close to her and blocked the path. She said the man was under the influence of alcohol. “He came near me and rubbed his shoulder against mine. I thought that he did it by mistake, but later he started making obscene gestures. I immediately reacted and shouted at him, but he held my hand,” she alleged.
The woman said the accused held her tightly and asked her to come with him.
“I could smell the stench of alcohol. I told him to go away but he did not listen and held on to me. I started to shout but no one from the public came for my rescue. He then removed his shoe and said he would assault me if I did not stop shouting,” she alleged.
“I was not scared and started to slap him but he strengthened his grip,” she alleged.
Meanwhile, a constable who was on duty in the area saw the scuffle and went to the woman’s rescue. The constable also apprehended the accused and took him to IP Estate police station.
A senior police officer said, “We asked the woman to file a written complaint against the accused. A medical examination of the accused was conducted. It proved that he was under the influence of alcohol. We have registered a case of molestation and outraging a woman’s modesty against the accused and are investigating the matter.”
The woman said she had to wait at the police station for over three hours to get a case registered against the accused.
