'2 States' box office collections near Rs 100 crore, Alia Bhat rings in triumph

Summary'2 States' box office collections have made it the third highest opening of year.

'2 States' continues its glory run at the box office with collections of Rs 76.26 crore (India business). Overall, the box office collections of the movie starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, is nearing Rs 100 crore mark (Rs 96.45 crore as till April 27) after garnering additional Rs 20.17 crore abroad.

The bulk of '2 States' box office collections from abroad comes from the US market (Rs. 9.54 crore), followed by UK market with collections of Rs 4 crore and UAE market with Rs 3.93 crore.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#2States [Week 2] Fri 3.51 cr, Sat 5.55 cr, Sun 6.47. Grand total: ₹ 76.30 cr nett. India biz. SUPER HIT!"

After a stellar opening day and weekend, the film has continued its run with shows going houseful almost everywhere. In fact, '2 States' box office collections have inked a major triumph with the third highest opening of the year, second only to 'Jai Ho' and 'Gunday'.

The film, starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, managed to garner Rs 38.02 crore in box office collections in its opening weekend. While Jai Ho's opening weekend collections were Rs 60.68 crore, Gunday had collected Rs 43.93 crore.

A best-selling novel, fresh new pair and two big producers – Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala – coming together raised a lot of expectations about 2 States. Evidently, the film has performed very well, and continued to remain steady

“It was a youth oriented love story with all the traditional Indian ingredients packaged to contemporary tastes. The film took off on a good note, opening to almost packed houses at multiplexes,” says trade expert Vinod Mirani.

“Among the authors, Chetan Bhagat is quite popular with the masses. He has a wide readership base. The story of the book was something anyone in India will connect to. That’s one of the reasons why the film did phenomenal business for an Alia Bhatt-Arjun Kapoor starrer, considering that both are relatively new,” says Akshaye Rathi of Rathi Group of Cinemas.
