2 departments of Tahirpur hospital to start by March
Health Minister Dr A K Walia directed the Health department and the PWD to work on starting at least a few specialty departments in the hospital by March. “This project was started five years ago and we wanted it to be of use to the public as soon as possible. By the end of March, we hope to have the Gastroenterology and Neurology departments functional,” Walia said.
He said the PWD had been directed to complete all work at the earliest and he would inspect the progress at regular intervals.
According to Walia, the project faced delays after plans to implement it through a PPP model failed to invite bids. “We had planned it on a PPP model, but that had to be scrapped after no bids were made. The hospital will now be run by the Delhi government,” Walia said. He said the remaining renovation and developmental work and purchase of equipment would continue.
Health department officials said the Rajiv Gandhi hospital will be the largest super-specialty hospital in Delhi with 16 operation theatres, 80 private wards and 150 single room hostels for resident medical officers.
The hospital will have state-of-the-art imaging equipment — PET CT
