months back, a tentative seniority list was being followed by the state personnel department as several cases relating to seniority were pending in the courts.
This seniority list has now been finalised under the “rota quota system” after the Supreme Court’s judgment in the case of Arvinder Singh Bains vs Punjab government.
“As there were 18 vacancies in the IAS to be filled from the state services quota, the Punjab government had forwarded to the UPSC names of 54 officers who are in the consideration zone,” a senior officer said.
Meanwhile, after the UPSC recently recommended promotion of 18 Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers to the IPS, the Punjab government on Thursday forwarded the concerned file to the Commission after giving nod for their promotions.
