17-year-old MBBS aspirant falls from second floor of Janakpuri hostel, dies

A day after she celebrated her 17th birthday, an MBBS aspirant died after she fell from the second floor of her hostel around 8 pm on Sunday.

The incident was reported from Janakpuri in West Delhi, when students on the first-floor balcony saw the girl fall from the second floor.

Police have not called it a case of suicide. No suicide note has been recovered.

Police said the girl returned to the hostel around 4 pm after meeting her two brothers for lunch. The brothers told police that they went to Pacific Mall in Rajouri Garden for lunch.

Investigations revealed that the girl’s brothers dropped her at the hostel later.

Police are investigating the events leading to her death.

The brothers have not filed a complaint, but have reportedly told police that their sister could not have ended her life as she was very happy.

The girl was preparing for MBBS at a coaching institute in Janakpuri.

Her parents live in Begusarai in Bihar, while her two brothers are studying in Delhi. Her father runs a factory in Begusarai.

Investigating officers said they would record the statements of her hostelmates.

Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan said, “It is too early to comment. Her birthday was on Saturday, and she went out with her brothers on Sunday. We will talk to her friends and find out more about the circumstances leading to her death.”
