10.31% increase in originating passenger earnings for South Western Railway
"Our originating passenger earnings till January 2013 have approximately increased by 10.31 per cent from Rs 947.42 crore to Rs 1045.13 crore," South Western Railway said in a statement here. The number of passengers commuting in South Western Railway has gone up from 154.73 millions to 163.45 million, an increase of 5.64 per cent over the same period last year, South Western Railway said. However, the performance on freight side was not much encouraging due to the ban on loading of Iron ore for export by Karnataka government, it said.
Inspite of it, South Western Railway could carried 28.035 Million Tonnes of freight upto Jan 2013 against 27.046 MTs in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 3.7 per cent, it said. Originating freight earnings upto Jan 2013 this fiscal is Rs 2126.22 crore, which is 17.38 per cent more than the corresponding period of previous year earnings of Rs 1811.40 crore, South Western Railway said.
Originating total gross earnings upto the end of Jan 2013 increased from Rs 2935. 29 crore to Rs 3,368.29 crore, which is 14.75 per cent more than the corresponding period of previous year, it said.
An earning of Rs 1275.84 lakh has been realized from Commercial Publicity till Jan 2013 during 2012-13 which is 78.58 per cent higher than earning of Rs 714.42 lakh realized during the previous financial year, South
