‘We want to cater to every student & citizen’
Till date, Quest has focused on school-level education and various issues related to that. From interviewing principals and directors to bringing concerns of educational sectors on a platform with insightful discussion from principals.
Progressing a notch higher, quest’s today’s interview is with Mr. M. G. Shirahatti from Oriental College of management. The institute set up in 2006 deals with Masters, Post-graduate diploma's and providing education with skill sets to students who are entering Work environment.
Explain the need to set up this institute and the courses it offers students.
M.G. Shirahatti: Our institute was set up in the academic year 2006. We offer Ph.d and are known as center for PhD which is the highest course any institute can offer.
We have MFM, Post Graduate Diploma courses for students. Being in the panel of recommendation members at Mumbai University, I wanted to start this institute to bridge the skill gap between market and institution s.
Ex-Education Minister Mr. Javed A Khan had a vision to start a cluster of educational institutes across Mumbai for students. That is how Oriental group of colleges came into existence. We have a college at Sanpada that offers Graduate courses and was started in the year 2004. Earlier, just a graduation would suffice for employment but in today's competitive era, further education is essential and improves prospects.
We applied to AICTE (All India Council of technical education) and Mumbai University for this management institute. By 2006,
